In a conversation with Mr. Rahul Agarwal, Director, Kool-Ex Cold Chain Ltd.

“sees a great opportunity in the ‘Last Mile’ distribution model, where last mile delivery of medicines from Urban to Rural and Farm to Fork model in horticulture from Rural to Urban can co-exist and becomes a very profitable venture”- Rahul Agarwal

Mr. Agarwal, for people who haven’t heard the story, how did you come to start Kool-Ex Cold Chain Ltd.?

Our Parent company Bhoruka Logistics has been working with the Pharmaceutical Industry providing Logistics services. Since 2010 onwards the customers had been urging us to enter the Cold Chain Arena as there was a growing demand for Cold Chain in the Pharma Sector. This made us seriously consider getting into the sector and we started Kool-ex Cold Chain Limited in 2013

What were the main stages in Kool-Ex Cold Chain’s development over the last 20 years?

Kool-ex has started in 2013 and is the only company offering:

  • Part Load services in Cold Chain
  • Has Solar Powered Cold Rooms
  • Is equipped to provide complete 3PL cold chain services to its Pharma customers
  • Has a Pan India presence and a fleet of more than 125 reefer vans

How big is Koo-Ex Cold Chain Ltd. now?

Kool-ex has

  • 9 Cold rooms across India, two of which run on Solar Power
  • Has 125 reefer vans which is a 10 Fold Growth in just 4 years (Started with only 12 reefer vans in 2013)
  • Is targeting to grow to 500 reefer vans, 20 cold rooms and state of the art commercial Temperature controlled warehouses across India

What is your proposition for Horticulture and Cold Chain operations specifically?

Kool-ex currently operates only in the Pharmaceutical Sector but sees a great opportunity in the ‘Last Mile’ distribution model, where last mile delivery of medicines from Urban to Rural and Farm to Fork model in horticulture from Rural to Urban can co-exist and becomes a very profitable venture, thereby resulting in overall cost reduction to the consumer

Getting down to business, what different types of cold chain and warehousing services do you offer?

Kool-ex currently operates only in the Pharmaceutical Sector and provides:

  • Express part Loads
  • Full Loads
  • Milk Runs
  • Warehousing on demand

Which of these different industry sectors do you see as being most likely to benefit from your solutions?

Any segment requiring Cold Chain – Pharmaceuticals, Horticulture, Perishables, Chemicals etc., can be benefited from this kind of complete solutions

Can you name any existing Kool-ex’s customers and tell us about what you do for them?

Kool-ex is dealing with almost all the Pharmaceutical & Life science companies present in India and provides all mentioned services as in point 5

Could you please explain your Mobile App for faster Shipment Tracking?

Mobile app works on an On Line Environment wherein the GPS unit installed in the Reefer Van/ Warehouse captures data – Temperature, Vehicle locations etc., and transmits this data to the server via GMS signal. This can then be viewed through the Mobile App in real time by connecting with the server.

What external factors do you see as driving demand for your solutions going forward?

The growing need of the Pharmaceutical Industry driven by both Growth and Regulatory and the advent of the much needed GST will ensure a huge jump in demand for our services and solutions for many years to come.

Where do you see Kool-Ex Cold Chain Ltd. going from here?

We see Kool-ex becoming a leader in Pharmaceutical Cold Chain Logistics with the multiple service options and flexible approach to customer requirements. The growing demand will continuously fuel growth and the use of Technology to its maximum, coupled with the best practices and processes being followed will ensure Kool-ex remains amongst leaders in this space
